Ever wanted an AI-powered robot on your team? Well, that future might be closer than you think...

Researchers at Macquarie University are working together with American experts in a new multi-university project, examining how to build stronger cyber defence teams made up of humans and AI bots working side by side.

Professor Dali Kaafar, Executive Director of the Optus Macquarie University Cyber Security Hub is one of the project leads.

“Macquarie University, through contributions from its experts from the Cyber Security Hub, will help develop solutions to help explain machine learning outcomes and build AI techniques that are robust against cyber security adversaries,” says Professor Kaafar.

The grant is part of the US-Australia International Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (AUSMURI) to develop the science behind robust Human-Bot Cybersecurity Teams (HBCT).

To combat the growing and complex challenges in cybersecurity, seven American and Australian universities are working together on the project

This latest research helps cement Macquarie Park’s position at the forefront of cybersecurity in Australia.

Industry leaders Macquarie Telecom recently announced a new Sovereign Cyber Security Centre of Excellence for the Park, and additional data processing capacity at their Talavera Road data centre.

This is in addition to Optus’ Cyber Security Hub, a joint partnership between the University and the telco who are headquartered in Macquarie Park.
