Macquarie Park business community meets new MP

Leading representatives from across Connect MPID’s members met with the new Federal MP for Bennelong, Jerome Laxale, yesterday.

The event brought together business leaders and Government Affairs representatives from health, tech, development, academia and small business to hear about Mr Laxale’s first 100 days in Parliament, and the shared challenges and opportunities facing our area.

Attendees highlighted the impact of their organisations in Macquarie Park, which is home to some 72,000 employees, 45,000 students and 12,000 local residents.

Topics ranged from Australia’s skills shortage (pathways for skilled migration and opportunities to upskill existing employees) support for research & development as an engine for growth, accessibility in Macquarie Park (including the need for rapid new connections to Parramatta and Sydney’s west) plus the vital role of ‘third spaces’ as a place for people and ideas to collide, including local cafes, bars and eateries.

Mr Laxale will travel to Canberra today (Thursday) to attend the national Jobs & Skills Summit.

Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District is a non-partisan, politically neutral and independent Association funded by its Members, which include leading local employees, Macquarie University, landowners, plus State and Local Government.
