Macquarie Park’s sky-high gardeners set to show off green thumbs in Spring Garden Competition

Entries are now open for the City of Ryde’s annual Spring Gardens Competition, including a special category for high-rise green thumbs - perfect for Macquarie Park residents!

The 30-year-strong competition offers ten categories for locals to share what they’ve been growing, nurturing and tending to in their respective green spaces.

This includes a special category for the best balcony and courtyard gardens, which is perfect for people who live in Macquarie Park. 89% of our innovation district residents live in apartments, according to the 2021 ABS Cesus.

The census also charted a 36% increase in people who call Macquarie Park home in the five years to 2021, with over 11,071 people living here today.

The City of Ryde’s Spring Garden Competition also includes a category for Commercial Gardens - perfect for workplaces big and small, hotels, the University campus and more.

Entries are open until August 31 2023, when a panel of garden experts and horticultural professionals will commence the judging process. Competition winners will be announced on October 25 at Macquarie Park’s very own Eden Gardens (Lane Cove Road).

City of Ryde Mayor, Sarkis Yedelian said the annual competition inspires community spirit and an appreciation for natural beauty and its upkeep:

“The Spring Garden Competition is a fantastic opportunity for residents to take a hands-on approach to making our city more beautiful.”

“It gives the community not only a chance to better our gardens but also to keep active, creative and engaged. These brilliant outdoor spaces can then bring encouragement and joy to everyone.”
