From Macquarie Park to Macquarie Street | State MP for Ryde gives inaugural speech

The new State MP for Ryde including Macquarie Park, Jordan Lane, took to the floor of the NSW Parliament to present his inaugural speech last Thursday.

Jordan hailed the importance of education, proposing an extension of school hours in a bid to nurture new generations, and support modern family dynamics.

“Local schools should become hubs for after-school activity where the government guarantees that a child should remain on school campuses until 6pm”, he said.

Jordan suggested that this change could help to ease some of the pressure facing working parents, affording greater flexibility and a place for extracurricular excellence.

He also acknowledged the rising costs and lengthy wait lists of before and after school care services to further his concept.

A new 3,000-student Secondary and Primary school planned for Macquarie Park at Lachlan’s Line is slated to be delivered during this term of Parliament, with plans for an additional primary school at MidTown Mac Park.

Jordan also revealed his desire to reform the local development landscape, most notably voluntary planning agreements, known as VPAs.

“It is my strong view that VPAs should be legislated out of existence and replaced with more strategic, precinct-based development.

Councils should be incentivised to work in partnership with State Government to deliver housing supply with real, tangible infrastructure benefits”, he said.

Representing the NSW Liberal Party, Jordan’s recent election win followed an extremely close campaign including a recount and no clear majority for several weeks.

A former local Councillor and Mayor of Ryde in 2022, Jordan has taken over from retiring MP Victor Dominello, who served the Ryde and Macquarie Park community for 15 years.

Jordan has pledged to continue his predecessor’s work as a strong local voice with a focus on green open spaces, the new Ryde hospital and new and upgraded schools in our area.

Connect MPID subscribers were invited to meet Jordan recently, when we co-hosted a pre-election event with the Macquarie Park Ryde Business Chamber featuring each of the running local candidates. Join our mailing list for future event opportunities like this one!
