Reach for the stars! Macquarie Park’s very open observatory re-opens to the public
Look to the heavens this weekend and discover the wonders of the universe - while your feet stay firmly on the ground in Macquarie Park. The Macquarie University Astronomical Observatory has re-opened to the public!
Built as a research facility on the University’s spacious green campus, the Observatory runs public sessions so you too can marvel at the stars, see our solar system through different telescopes and ask the experts from the Association of Astronomy.
Public observatory sessions run most Friday and Saturday nights throughout the year - and can now return to “in person” events as COVID-19 restrictions ease.
Visitors can expect to see planets, moons, stars and even far away galaxies from the Observatory’s in-dome telescopes - perfect for inquiring minds of all ages.
Macquarie University’s Astronomical Observatory is part of Macquarie Park’s surprisingly significant space industry. The Park’s space credentials - including Optus satellites, a major astronomical research centre, defense players Raytheon and BAE systems and advanced capabilities in spectronomy were centre stage at a recent space industry summit.
Public observatory sessions are weather dependent and must be booked in advance.
