Greater Sydney Commission appoints Executive Director for Macquarie Park

The NSW Government’s Greater Sydney Commission has appointed Ms Sarah Winter as Executive Director for Macquarie Park, a new role designed to help coordinate the agenda for our area and to build it’s future.

The GSC’s Chief Executive Officer, Elizabeth Mildwater, said Ms Winter “will join an exceptional leadership team who are developing New South Wales’ innovation precincts”, and that she would begin her new role on 31 January.

“Macquarie Park includes a world class university, a key regional hospital and a high-tech employment hub and we look forward to continuing work with stakeholders to realise the significant opportunities it offers”, said Mildwater.

The NSW Government identified Macquarie Park as a Premier’s Priority Precinct in 2020, and in 2021 published their 20-year plan to transform Macquarie Park into a world-leading innovation precinct to ‘reach its potential as a world-class place for innovation and collaboration with a strong employment focus’.

Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District’s General Manager, Mark Ames, welcomes the increased focus from NSW Government, demonstrated by the appointment of Ms Winter:

“This appointment highlights the importance of Macquarie Park as an economic, innovation and employment precinct in Sydney, and indeed in Australia.”

“The NSW Government’s 20-year plan for Macquarie Park recognised our area’s strengths, and our ability to do more. To make that plan a reality will require focus and careful coordination to ensure all of the investment and infrastructure required to help Mac Park grow as an innovation district is delivered.”

“Connect MPID welcomes Sarah Winter to her new role, and we look forward to working with her closely.”

2021’s draft Macquarie Park masterplan aims to bring an additional 20,000 jobs and more homes and more retail to the area. Connect MPID welcomed the draft strategy and facilitated a coordinated response from our members, further highlighting our ability to help support Macquarie Park’s strategic goals.

“Macquarie Park is the second highest contributor to GDP in NSW, and a key part of Sydney’s global economic corridor.”

“Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District wants to ensure we continue to grow the economic capacity of Macquarie Park, making it a home for more new ideas, new innovation and new jobs” said Mark.

Ms Winter previously worked as a partner for investment, infrastructure and impact at Deloitte. Earlier roles include providing advice to the Australian Human Rights Commission, the United Nations in Haiti and PNG, and the Australian Council of International Development. She’s also served on boards for children’s legal services, community housing and advocacy.
