Works underway on major Macquarie Park intersection

The intersection of Lane Cove Road and Waterloo Road in Macquarie Park is being upgraded in a bid to reduce congestion and improve travel times for all road users.

Works began at this location recently as a part of a wider $240 million investment by Transport for NSW in to bus priority and roads in orur area.

With completion slated for late 2024, project outcomes will include a new ‘bus only’ right turn lane from Waterloo Road, extended left turn slip lanes, and a new ‘straight on’ through lane coming from the south side of Waterloo Road, as well as upgrades to footpaths and a new signalised pedestrian crossing.

Current priorities include:

  • Movement of gas, water, electricity, telecommunications and underground services on all sides of the Lane Cove Road and Waterloo Road intersection. Consturction of a new retaining wall.

  • Changes to boundaries of properties surrounding construction.

  • Reconstruction of footpaths and driveways.

Transport for NSW claim the intersection upgrade will lead to less time stuck in traffic for drivers, and will accommodate increased capacity for bus services.

Construction is due for late 2024, which is shaping up to be a big year for transport infrastructure and movement in Macquarie Park. The Sydney Metro expansion also due to open next year, delivering a significant increase in pedestrians to this area.
