Key insights from the Macquarie Park Summit 2024: Innovation and Collaboration 

Yesterday’s Macquarie Park Summit 2024 was a dynamic exploration of the future of the Macquarie Park innovation district, bringing together industry leaders, government representatives, researchers, and innovators to discuss Macquarie Park's vital role in shaping Australia’s innovation landscape. 

The keynote from Federal Minister for Industry and Science, The Hon. Ed Husic, outlined the federal Government’s industry and innovation agenda including an emphasis on ambition to transform Australia’s economy  

The Member for Bennelong, Jerome Laxale MP acknowledged the federal Government’s recognition of the importance of the district through key investments including the zero-emission bus depot and bus interchange projects.  

 

Dr. Kim Sutherland from NSW Health presented an update on the NSW Health and Research Innovation Strategy including a place-based approach to drive synergies and integration through a statewide network or precincts.  

The summit featured two panels on the district’s emerging innovation capabilities including RNA, synthetic biology and semiconductors and what was required to grow these sectors in the district.  

The second panel, "The History of WiFi in Macquarie Park and Its Semiconductor Future," featured  Dr. David Skellern AO, Chair of the Semiconductor Sector Service Bureau who outlined the history of wi-fi commercialisation in the district and future opportunities in the semiconductor supply chain 

Placemaking emerged as a key theme, with Andrew Hoyne delivering a compelling keynote on best practices for creating vibrant places and spaces. The placemaking and innovation spaces panel examined the importance of intentional collaboration between a diverse group of stakeholders in building a world-class innovation district. 

Overall, the summit was a powerful reminder of the immense potential within Macquarie Park. As we move forward, the insights gained and partnerships formed will be crucial in our mission to position Macquarie Park as a leader in innovation, driving positive change for the region and beyond.
