Metro campaign aims to elevate convenience of Macquarie Park

A new campaign led by Connect MPID aims to highlight what the expansion of Sydney Metro will mean for our area in 2024.

The campaign kicked off with a member-first industry briefing with Transport for NSW and Sydney Metro, where attendees heard about progress on extending the Metro network from Macquarie Park beneath Sydney Harbour to the city and beyond.

A new report filled with intelligence, “Get ready for more Metro, Macquarie Park” was also launched, which maps what the 30-minute commuter catchment area will be from 2024.

When it opens next year, Metro passengers will be able to board an autonomous train at Macquarie Park station, and travel direct to Barangaroo in only 18 minutes.

According to transport planning theory (Marchetti’s constant), people will commute for about one hour each day (or half an hour each way) and will adjust their lives - including changing where they work or live - to meet this ‘travel time budget’.

“More Metro will mean more people being able to access Macquarie Park, and that’s an opportunity employers in our area should prepare for”, said Mark Ames, General Manager at Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District.

The “Get ready” campaign will continue to raise awareness throughout July, with posters at busy bus stops in Macquarie Park, on screens in Macquarie Centre and leading local workplaces, and postcards at local cafes.

Besides the 18-minute direct Metro journey to Barangaroo, passengers boarding at Macquarie Park can also reach Crows Nest in 13 minutes, Central in 24, and Sydenham in 31 - all without having to change trains or service lines!
