Early plans for new primary school revealed for Macquarie Park
Plans for a new primary school have been unveiled for Macquarie Park, as the population of our innovation district continues to grow.
The new school is set to accommodate 750 students and will be built as part of the $1.76bn “Midtown Mac Park” re-development of the Ivanhoe Estate; one of Australia’s largest housing renewal projects.
Students will be enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 6, with the school set to become one of the largest in Ryde.
A 6-storey vertical campus, the $53m school will have outdoor play areas on each level of the building, as well as an outdoor play area on the building’s roof. There will also be a multipurpose hall, library, car parking and staff facilities.
The Department of Planning is leading the project at the new integrated mixed community growing at Midtown Mac Park (corner of Herring Road and Epping Road), with detailed plans for the school anticipated to be released later this year.
Construction of the first stage of the Midtown redevelopment is already underway. Once complete, the new neighbourhood will include 3,300 new homes across 82 hectares with social housing, affordable rentals and privately owned units.
In addition to the school, a new 90-place childcare facility has recently been announced for Midtown as well.
The 2021 Australian Census revealed a 36% increase in Macquarie Park’s residential population over 5 years. Today, more than 11,000 people reside within our innovation district. A flurry of recent development approvals mean more new homes are on the horizon for the area - including Australia’s tallest suburban tower.
