Progress on new Johnson & Johnson Australian HQ, as Minister for Innovation digs Macquarie Park

A sod-turning ceremony has marked the start of construction of the next phase of Stockland’s $2bn MPark development in Macquarie Park – including a new Australian HQ for Johnson & Johnson.

Three levels of Government marked the important moment together alongside the CEO of Stockland, including Federal Member for Bennelong - the Hon. Jerome Laxale MP, NSW Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology - the Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP, and Mayor of the City of Ryde - Councillor Sarkis Yedelian OAM.

Speaking at the ceremony Sue Martin, Managing Director of Johnson & Johnson MedTech Australia, reflected on the company’s impact in our area:

“Johnson & Johnson have called Macquarie Park home for more than 50 years. We are proud to contribute to the reputation of this district for leading in innovation, in discovery and in healthcare.”

“It was ‘the General’ Robert Johnson who first decided our Australian base on Waterloo Road should be built in the distinctive American style, which has been our home and a local landmark since 1970”

“Today we are delighted to partner with Stockland to create a new space where our people can transform healthcare in this country.”

17 Khartoum Road will include the new six-storey Johnson & Johnson HQ, and a new seven-storey workplace at 15 Khartoum Road, both wrapped around a new 2,500m2 park.

These buildings add to the recently completed 11 Khartoum Road which is set to be the home of Macquarie Park success story WiSE Specialist Emergency Clinic, global hearing health specialists Demant, and exciting new food and beverage operator The Naked Duck.

Also putting his shovel in the ground, the Minister for Innovation, Science and Trade the Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP hailed MPark at the centre of Macquarie Park:

“This will be a great building but also a great centre for innovation, providing more than just floor space,”

“Macquarie Park is an outstanding example of a centre of innovation.”

Construction workers were joined by distinguished guests, and welcomed to country by Dr Jo Anne Rey from the Dharug Women’s Group, who have been working with Stockland to strengthen MPark’s connection to country for more than two years.

Construction of MPark Stage 1 is slated for completion in 2025.
