Macquarie Park helps launch new national network at National Health & Innovation Precincts Summit
Macquarie Park was recognised at the 2nd annual National Health & Innovation Precincts Summit, last week.
Hosted at the University of Technology Sydney, the two-day event invited innovation district actors from across Australia to network and connect, share insights, exchange ideas and boost inter-district collaboration.
Macquarie Park featured strongly on the agenda, with insights shared by Dr Iris Depaz, Sanofi (Talavera Road) who spoke about translational research, and Melissa Ryan, Director of Incubation and Entrepreneurship at Macquarie University sharing her experience heading Macquarie University Incubator (Hadenfeld Drive).
In a governance-themed roundtable, Connect MPID General Manager Mark Ames highlighted Macquarie Park’s national significance:
“Long nicknamed ‘Pill Hill’, our innovation district has a strong focus on pharmaceutical and MedTech R&D, clinical trials and sales.”
“It was great to share the power of our innovation assets - the proximity of entities like Abbott, Sanofi and Novartis to our thriving research and start-up landscapes, plus our planned Australian-first Pilot RNA Manufacturing facility.”
“I was proud to share how Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District came about, and how leading organisations in the area are working together around our shared table”, he said.
Key Summit takeaways included the significance of integrated leadership and governance, the Public-Private synergy of encouraging private investment while maintaining public objectives, and the importance of placemaking in successful precincts.
A highlight of the Summit was the launch of Australian Innovation Districts Professionals; a new national network connecting district leaders, spearheaded by Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, University of Technology Sydney and Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District.
The National Health & Innovation Precincts Summit will visit the Gold Coast in 2024.
