Update on Catherine Hamlin Park: Enhancing Green Space for Macquarie Park

Construction at Catherine Hamlin Park is advancing, with the first phase nearing completion.

The park will connect seamlessly to Macquarie Square and is being developed by John Holland. Future phases will include high-quality public amenities such as an amenities building, an amphitheatre, walkways, gardens, park furniture, and flexible open spaces.

This new green space is designed to be a central hub for both residents and professionals. Once complete, it will serve as an outdoor space for a range of activities including night food markets, open-air cinemas, fitness boot camps, and yoga sessions. Additionally, it will provide a relaxing setting for lunch breaks and community engagement. The park will feature a fully equipped outdoor gym, easily accessible for nearby buildings.

Named in honour of Dr. Catherine Hamlin AC (1924-2020), the park commemorates her outstanding legacy. Dr. Catherine Hamlin, a resident of Hermitage, Denistone, co-founded the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia with her husband, providing essential surgical care for women across Africa. Her contributions were recognised with numerous awards, including the Member of the Order of Australia in 1983, a Nobel Peace Prize nomination in 1999, and the Centenary Medal in 2001.
