Hidden Mac Park – The Great North Walk

Have you ever been on a bushwalk on your lunch break? Pack your hiking boots – it’s easy to get out and about with the Great North Walk on Macquarie Park’s doorstep.

Our area is unique, bordered on one side by the beautiful Lane Cove National Park.

Snaking through the National Park’s bushland and river tracks, the Great North Walk was created in 1988 to celebrate Australia’s bicentenary and stretches from Sydney to Newcastle – via Macquarie Park - with over 250kms of walking track.

You can follow footpaths for 20kms along the edge of our area to explore unique wildlife, Aboriginal history, picnic sites – and even rowing boat hire!

Perhaps you might even spot our local resident mouse-like marsupial, the Shy Brown Antechinus?

So whether you live nearby or work in an office, why not walk if off during the week, or go further on the weekend? The Great North Walk is suitable for most ages and fitness levels but some bushwalking experience is recommended.

Don’t forget your water and a hat!

Walk in via tracks at Christie Park, Shrimptons Creek trail, Riverside Drive, De Burgh’s cycleway and Plassey Road.
