How I Made This: Defy-Hi Robotics - inventing a new way to maintain buildings

Amazing ideas evolve in Australia’s original innovation district! Today we’re introducing you to a local entrepreneur in the first of our occasional video series: “How I Made This”.

How can you maintain a building facade, without having to send humans over the top in a harness or cradle?

That’s the problem start up Defy-Hi Robotics is trying to solve - and they’ve found a robotic solution. As a startup in residence at the CSIRO Lindfield Collaboration Hub, Defy-Hi have been able to design and build an exciting prototype, and start testing.

Hear from CEO and Founder of Defy-H Robotics, Dr Abbie Widin as she explains more:

Since this video case study was produced, Dr Widin and the team have secured a grant as part of the NSW Government Physical Sciences Fund competitive development and commercialisation program for technological innovations in NSW.

“The grant has enabled us to build out our team, and start to turn our project into a product. From here we’ve got plans for a showcase of the technology and we’ll be kicking off a pilot program with selected property owners later in the year”

CSIRO’s Lindfield Collaboration Hub is an innovation incubator situated just across the Lane Cove River from Macquarie Park’s growing CBD. Katie Green, Team Leader and operations manager at the hub, understands how working in proximity to others - like in an innovation district - makes a difference:

“You can’t achieve great things if you’re working in a bubble. Tapping into the broader networks that have complementary skills and expertise and facilities is the core of how collaboration and innovation needs to work. And we love being a part of that.”

Innovation creates the products and companies of the future, and will be central to Macquarie Park’s future growth. Here at Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District we’re happy to highlight the surprising and exciting success stories happening here, in Australia’s original innovation district.

Stay tuned for more in our “How I Made This Series” in the coming months!
