Major new Macquarie Park landmark reaches highest point
A roof top ceremony has celebrated construction reaching its highest point at Stage 1 of Stockland’s $2bn M_Park development in Macquarie Park.
The ‘topping out’ ceremony last Thursday (April 27) included a welcome to country from Dharug Country elders, speeches from local leaders, and the ceremonial placing of a tree at the top of the building - a time-honoured tradition in the construction industry.
Stage 1 of M_Park will soon become home to the world-leading hearing healthcare group Demant, and a new multidisciplinary medical and emergency centre led by Macquarie Park success story WiSE.
The architect-designed, nine-storey building is the first of four in Stage 1, which forms part of a seven hectare mixed-use innovation precinct focused on life sciences and technology. Construction of new Australian headquarters for global MedTech and Pharmaceutical leaders Johnson & Johnson’s will also begin soon.
Stockland’s Managing Director and CEO, Tarun Gupta applauded this progress, suggesting M_Park will support the NSW Government’s efforts to drive investment and employment in health, education and technology industries.
“This first building at M_Park Stage 1 is the product of extensive collaboration between the Stockland team and our building partners. M_Park will set the benchmark for enabling the future of work,” said Mr Gupta.
“Reaching the highest point of a new building is always a big moment. Today’s milestone at M_Park brings us a step closer to delivering Stockland’s flagship innovation precinct in New South Wales, which will accommodate world-class tenants, including the future of Australia’s medical technology industry.”
Upon completion, Stage 1 of M_Park will provide 2,500 square metres of green and public space surrounded by:
Three commercial buildings plus a data centre
62,500 square metres total Net Lettable Area (NLA), with 1,500 - 1,800 NLA office floor plates
2,000 square metres of retail, health, and medical offerings.
The topping out ceremony was attended by Mayor of the City of Ryde, Councillor Sarkis Yedelian OAM, the CEO of City of Ryde, Wayne Rylands, local innovation district leaders, future tenants and construction partners.
Federal Member for Bennelong, Jerome Laxale MP congratulated Stockland and its partners at the topping out ceremony:
“Macquarie Park is the place to be for innovation in Sydney and indeed New South Wales. This quality development is a prime example for any business in the research, health or medical technology sectors to move to Macquarie Park,” said Mr Laxale.
Already a hub for technology and health, Stockland’s M_Park project will frame Macquarie Park as a national centre for jobs, innovation, and investment, nurturing the future of MedTech in Australia.
Construction of 11 Khartoum Road is slated for completion this year, with the remaining buildings finished by FY25.
