City of Ryde will host a leading sustainability event in Macquarie Park on Tuesday May 16, as a call to action for local businesses to accelerate their net zero transition.
Hosted at Macquarie University Incubator - itself an award-winning sustainable building - this engaging educational event will facilitate collaborative discussions on how businesses can effectively reduce the amount of carbon they produce, supporting sustainability goals and lowering business’s climate risk profiles.
Speakers Jackie McKeon from the Business Renewables Centre Australia (BRC-A), Rebecca Pettit from Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and Magali Wardle from the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) will lead discussions, offering crucial insights into navigating the business world with a reduced footprint.
The event will target three crucial areas in achieving net zero emissions: electrification, Scope 3 emissions, and the impact of tenants.
Electrification will encourage the increased substitution of fossil-fueled power for renewable sources, and Scope 3 emissions refer to those indirect greenhouse gases that inevitably occur as a consequence of a facility’s activity.
As a leading innovation district, Macquarie Park is already home to employees making a significant impact in this field - including electrification specialists Schneider Electric (Banfield Rd) and global gas giants BOC Ltd (Julius Ave).
Macquarie Park will soon welcome its first 6-star Green star rated building, Macquarie Exchange (Waterloo Rd), which will run entirely on certified carbon neutral energy.
