Macquarie Park welcomes new Sydney FC training base
Last week Sydney FC officially opened Sky Park, its brand new $30 million world-class football and community precinct - in Macquarie Park.
The new facility will provide the foundation for the Sky Blues’ future growth trajectory and its construction is one of the most important moments in Sydney FC’s history.
Sky Park will supply elite training tools for the club’s A-League, Westfield W-League and Academy squads, strengthening the Sky Blues’ connection to their fanbase.
NSW Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper spoke to the significance of this development:
“Sydney FC are Australia’s most successful A-League club, with some of the world’s greatest players donning the Sky Blue jersey, including…current Matildas Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord”
“The state-of-the-art Sky Park Centre of Excellence will provide a world-class high-performance training and community facility that will improve male and female academy and pathway development”, he said.
This timely opening comes as Australia’s Matildas wrap-up a record-breaking campaign in this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, inspiring a significant spike in interest in the Australian football scene. Sydney FC’s club membership records have already been broken six weeks out from the start of the new season.
Sky Park is based at Macquarie University’s Sports Fields and will also leverage expanded collaboration opportunities with the University.
“It is Macquarie University’s pleasure to welcome Sydney FC’s Centre of Excellence to its campus”, says Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton.
