Major milestone reached as first Macquarie Exchange building tops out

The first of four innovative buildings at Macquarie Exchange in Macquarie Park has “topped out” - reaching its highest point in construction - with celebrations led by Frasers Property Industrial and Winten Property Group.

The significant milestone was marked last Friday with a ceremony to mark the high point in construction. Aboriginal leader Brendan Kerin gave a rousing acknowledgement of country, while Fraser’s Anthony O’Neill praised the project builders, Roberts Co, and the teams involved to date.

The tradition of “topping out” a building can be traced back to ancient Scandinavian rites, and includes the placement of a new tree at the top of a building to acknowledge the trees displaced to make way for progress. Today, it’s used as a way of celebrating a significant project milestone and the hard work of the people involved in construction.

O’Neill praised the 89 apprentices and 40 indigenous workers involved in the project, and highlighted that MQX4 will be the first 6-star Green Star rated building in Macquarie Park.

Standing on the recently completed rooftop, ceremony attendees were treated to sweeping views of Macquarie Park and neighbouring Lane Cove National Park. Once complete MQX4 will include an expansive rooftop terrace for tenants to enjoy, as well as premium end-of-trip facilities.

The nine storey building is the first of four planned for the precinct, clustered around Macquarie Park Metro station.
