More travel choice: new cycleway connects Macquarie Park

Macquarie Park commuters have more ways to move with the arrival of a new cycleway connecting them to the surrounding community - traffic free!

The new Pittwater Road shared user path provides people walking and cycling a continuous route between Gladesville and Macquarie Park.

Connecting the Epping Road cycleway to Victoria Road and Tarban Creek cycleway, the path was jointly funded by the City of Ryde and NSW Government.

Councillor Jordan Lane, keen cyclist and Mayor of the City of Ryde, said the new 5km route would connect communities and was part of Council’s ongoing commitment to active transport:

“The Pittwater Shared User Path will improve mobility and transport connections for our community,” Clr Lane said.

“It also expands our burgeoning bicycle network and at the same time encourages people to stay active and healthy.”

In recent surveys of Macquarie Park commuters we found increased interest in returning to work by foot or by bike - with almost as many people planning to choose active transport as going by bus.

As Macquarie Park grows, the need for more transport connections increases.

Our area is already home to a surprisingly extensive cycleway network, allowing many trips to happen without a car.

Last year, Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District worked with Sydney mobile bicycle mechanics The Rolling Fix to offer safe riding tips for new commuters, and to show the extent of Macquarie Park’s growing network of quiet streets, shared user paths and cycleways: including Epping Road, Lachlan’s Line, Waterloo Road, Shrimpton’s Creek and now Pittwater Road too.
