Celebrating five years of Sydney Metro North West line!

Sydney Metro recently marked a milestone as it celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Metro North West Line opening.

In Macquarie Park, Australia’s original innovation district, business, students and residents have reaped the benefits of this transformative infrastructure.

With travel times as quick as 27 minutes from Tallawong to Macquarie University Station and 8 minutes from Chatswood to Macquarie Park, the Metro has seamlessly integrated into the ecosystem of the Macquarie Park innovation district. The North West Metro line has an impressive tally of over 84 million customer journeys and 18 million kilometres covered.

Since its opening on 26 May 2019, the North West line has seamlessly connected communities, providing accessibility to the Macquarie Park innovation district and surrounding neighbourhoods.

More than 20% of the total number of trips occurring on Sydney Metro since 2019 ended in Macquarie Park stations. Based on survey conducted by CMPID, more than 30% of employees and students travelling to Macquarie Park use Metro as their primary mode of transport.

This year marks another pivotal moment as the Metro North West Line extends its reach into the CBD through the Sydney Metro City & Southwest extension, further enhancing connectivity for Macquarie Park residents and workers alike.

With a direct 18-minute journey from the city and enhanced connections to multiple lines, the Metro service expansion widens the talent catchment zone to 30 minutes, opening doors for students and professionals alike.

Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District is currently working with members to identify future public transport and mobility improvements for the area.
