Two wheels or four? How will you commute back to Mac Park?

COVID-19 has changed the way people travel - and how they intend to commute to the office - according to the latest research from Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District.

We asked hundreds of local commuters twice - in 2020 and in 2021 - how they plan to return to Mac Park when restrictions ease.

The number of people intending to drive has increased significantly - up 8% on pre-pandemic levels.

While confidence in Macquarie Park’s state-of-the-art Sydney Metro system returned, intention to use the bus declined from 16% to just 9%.

Almost as many people say they would like to return to Macquarie Park by walking or cycling. Cycling has been on the increase since the start of COVID-19, with record trips on bike routes in Ryde.

When asked what informed their choice of travel mode, employees said the cost and duration of their trip had the biggest impact.

With more cars on local roads, congestion will remain an issue - both for the Park and at workplace car parks - with workplaces playing an important role in keeping Macquarie Park moving.

Leading employers can ensure employees are aware of all their transport choices - including public transport - and support their active commuters by keeping their end of trip facilities open and clean.

Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District members have exclusive access to carpooling, parking and end of trip facility toolkits, while our website is packed with handy travel hints for a sustainable return to Mac Park.
