Two wheels good: discovering Mac Park’s surprising selection of cycleways

COVID-19 led to more people exploring Macquarie Park by bike than ever before. As national Ride2Work Day approaches, we asked our friends at The Rolling Fix to share their experience of cycling in our area, and to show off some of Macquarie Park’s surprisingly good cycleways…

This year Ride2Work day is on 10 November - and we want to help Mac Park put its best wheel first (even if you’re working from home!)

It’s a great opportunity to think about how you commute, connect with your colleagues and spin your wheels.

Stay tuned for the launch of our Start The Cycle competition next week - you could win a new bike worth $1,500!

Thomas’s Top Tips

Thomas heads up The Rolling Fix, a mobile bike mechanic who works with leading workplaces across Sydney to keep their employees riding safely. When it comes to two wheels, there’s not much he doesn’t know!

Thomas took a leisurely ride to explore Macquarie Park’s growing network of quiet streets, shared user paths and cycleways; including Epping Road, Lachlan’s Line, Waterloo Road and Shrimpton’s Creek.

New to riding and want some advice? Thomas’s top tips include:

  1. Make sure your bike is safe and roadworthy - pump your tires up

  2. Plan your route - from Google Maps to City of Ryde bike maps, it pays to plan ahead

  3. Use your bell! On shared user paths it is polite to give a quick ring of your bell to help alert people you’re sharing space with

  4. Do a trial run - take your friend for a bike ride at the weekend so your Monday morning commute is less daunting

If you’re just starting out, Bicycle Network has excellent resources for beginners and you’ll find more info about cycling to Mac Park on our website.

Stay tuned for competition details, and see you on the cycleways!
