Macquarie Park’s community came together on Tuesday to hear new insights about AI from industry leaders, and to thank outgoing local State Member and Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, the Hon. Victor Dominello MP.
Representatives from academia, business and government met at Macquarie University Incubator (Hadenfield Avenue) for networking over breakfast, followed by a rousing presentation from the NSW Chief Data Scientist, Dr Ian Oppermann.
Dr Oppermann shared insights into the extensive transformation of digital government; from the creation of the Service NSW app, to the record-breaking roll out of COVID-safe check in during the recent pandemic.
Looking to the future, Dr Oppermann highlighted the challenges and opportunities artificial intelligence poses - including a demonstration of the controversial AI conversation model ChatGPT.
Minister Dominello, who will step down from his role at the March ‘23 state election, shared highlights from his time as the local representative, and his views on the importance of continuing the evolution of digital government.
An engaging panel discussion followed, including Dr Amin Beheshti, Director of the Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence and Melissa Ryan, Director of Incubation and Entrepreneurship from Macquarie University.
Minister Dominello was elected to the NSW State Government as the Member for Epping in 2008. He has held various portfolios, including Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation and most recently Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government.
