North Ryde’s BOC to slash emissions

Leading local employer BOC, a gas and engineering company based in North Ryde, has announced it will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions nationally by 16% - in one go.

From next year BOC will purchase energy produced at a world-leading "energy from waste" facility in Kwinana, WA, that will divert 400,000 tonnes of waste from landfill every year to deliver 38MW of energy.

John Evans, Managing Director, BOC South Pacific, said the reduction was a significant step:

"BOC is committed to increasing our renewable energy sourcing from solar, biomass or biogas and wind projects across the country, and are actively exploring more opportunities on the east coast of Australia."

From the bubbles in your fizzy drink to life-saving oxygen in hospitals, BOC supplies gas and chemicals across the South Pacific region. Founded 135 years ago, and now a subsidiary of global firm Linde Plc, BOC's south pacific headquarters are based on Julius Avenue in North Ryde.

Leading employers in the area are increasingly focussed on emissions reductions. In 2020 Macquarie University revealed its campus will be entirely powered by renewable energy sourced from the Snowy Hydro scheme.
